Learning the True practice of forgiveness brings heaven to everyone! Traditionally though, Forgiveness is thought of as letting someone off the hook for something they did. We let it slide saying “that’s okay I forgive you”. Then we walk away feeling good about ourselves for being such a good person. Meanwhile we hang on to the idea that they did something wrong. Often that idea lingers for years or for life! Living in quiet desperation is not forgiveness!
To actually forgive we have to release the idea that anything actually happened at all! Does that seem like too much to ask? Can you hear the thought running in your mind that it actually did happen? Perhaps your asking if I’m saying that you are suppose to pretend that it didn’t.
That’s a logical question so let’s dive into the divine miracle that true forgiveness offers us by understanding a few metaphysical principles.
All Spiritual teachings tell us in one way or another that the Kingdom of Heaven is within. We are instructed to look nowhere else to find it. Over and over this point is stressed. It is often missed, not understood, or simply not practiced.
Jesus tells us in the Bible, Romans 12 verses 2-5 : “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one, members one of another.”
For those that study A COURSE IN MIRACLES and have begun to understand the lessons, we find that they all point to our oneness in Christ. Jesus takes us by the hand and makes every effort to help us understand that we are not separate but joined in Christ. “Forgive them Father for they know not what they do” was his recognition of our belief in separation and his knowledge, Spiritual practice, and love for TRUTH.
The act of forgiveness is the means by which we are “transformed by the renewing of our mind.” Through forgiveness, the belief in separation dissipates until our vision of Heaven is restored within and the words “on Earth as it is in Heaven” becomes a reality instead of a wish.
How is forgiveness actually done? How can we transform our minds so that we bring Heaven to earth? The answer is in the question! It is pointed to again and again in the Bible. But to make it simple lets explain it this way. When any thought I have is heard; who is the first to hear it? I AM! (Uh oh!)
In Exodus chapter 3 verse 13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’Then what shall I tell them?”
OK; I Am who I am too! Aren’t you?
So…That MUST mean that we are both ONE in the body of the Christ mind! But our thoughts, are blocking the vision of Christ within.
Jesus saw the Christ in himself by the same means we are meant to. By seeing the Christ in each other… and ourselves. So when I say “I AM”, who am I referring to? The Christ in me! Then if I am having an unloving thought toward anyone in any way, I’m attacking my own Christ mind! I’m Insane! What healthy person would attack themselves? Therefor; in fear of my own insanity, I project it onto my Brother. “HE did it!”
To practice forgiveness, what I need to do is say to myself is: I AM having an unloving thought that needs to be healed! I AM not loving the Christ in me nor am I honoring the Christ in my brother. Let me then ask the Holy part of my mind how to see this differently.
This is spoken of throughout Matthew chapter 7 “Ask and you shall receive. Knock and the door shall be opened to you, Seek and you shall find”etc.
Every thought is a prayer! And our salvation comes from healing the misperception of ourselves and others because we are one in the body of Christ.
So; How do we actually practice forgiveness? By looking at our own thoughts first as instructed (Seek first the kingdom of Heaven which is within you) and asking for a healed perception. Being still for a moment until the answer comes. Trusting the promise that it will. I can promise you that it comes quickly! 🙂
Because as I’ve done this, I have experienced the Miracle of how quickly God answers my prayer for help! It is truly amazing when forgiveness actually happens and how much peace replaces the thought I had. It’s also amazing how fast that fades and the thought comes back! But now I know how to handle it by asking again. Forgiveness is a spiritual practice! All day every day!
