Do you ever get confused about what to believe about spirituality, religion, theology and dogma? I have, many times, and quite honestly I still get wrapped up in all the things that are suppose to be spiritual and moral. All those rules to live by and things I’m supposed to do or be.
I think that all of that is really a distraction and a set up to draw us away from the the true “goal” of what it means to be spirituality awakened. Of course I’m writing this from my own perspective, so I’m not asking you to buy into what I’m saying in this post. Or to believe in it, or even agree with what I’m saying. I’m just sharing my own growing sense of what a mine field the spiritual path or journey is fraught with.
My sense is that a great lie is being told! That in order to be “spiritual” I have to be something other than myself! Which exacerbates my own self loathing because I’m not able to do those things and live up to the standards of some perceived attainment of perfection.
As a Child of God, I think it’s more important to explore what it means to be BE a Child of God and allow myself the Grace, space, and self love to get it wrong sometimes! To steer my own ship and crash on the rocks if I need to! For my own growth and learning. Now obviously there are guide posts and lighthouses to watch for. I need to be mindful that they warn me of impending trouble. There are signs along the way that say to me; steer clear of this or that. But in the end, if I choose to ignore those signals and end up crashed on the rocks, is that not also a spiritual lesson for me? An opportunity for growth in knowing the truth?
Humans have the gift of free will. The ability of choice between right and wrong. That ability makes us different from anything else on this planet. We can choose say “no” to God. (Or believe that we can at least, and experience the effect of that seed we’ve sown.) I think it’s quite possible that we often NEED to experience this! To learn what effect it has, and the suffering that results from it so that we don’t make that mistake again! But we do make that mistake again!! And again and again and again!
How long does it take for a child to learn what is not in his best interest before he stops a behavior? Some never do! At least not in THIS lifetime! Which is why we have sociopaths, murderers, thieves and liars. But if everything works for the good and glory of God, what purpose do they serve in the Great Plan? Could it be their choice, prior to birth, to come here and play that role for the benefit of others to learn Love and compassion? To see beyond the physical evidence of what the body does, or the personality, and see only Love? To give Humanity an opportunity to Love and give grace as God does? I think so.
I personally firmly believe that Earth and all the many galaxies in space/time are a “school” to learn how to give and thereby receive ultimate unconditional love. To raise awareness of loves presence in everything! As we learn, our vibration raises. The song of love gets sweeter by our tuning up to the frequency of ultimate love!
Each person has a note to play in the song. Some play the low bass notes by being unaware of the true nature of Love within themselves; and others play the high notes. As we each learn the song, we will all end up playing the ONE beautiful note in unison. The song of OM!
So how you tune up is nobody’s business! That is between you and The Creator. Part of the “tuning”process is to let others play their appointed part and concentrate on playing our own! To forgive others for the wrong notes as they learn the song of love, and do our best to play it better! So that when others hear it in us, they can learn from our example.
This is how human suffering could end so quickly! If we could just stop arguing about how others play the “instrument” they’ve chosen and find our own notes of compassion and grace, we would be the example that others could, and would, want to tune into.
Aren’t you attracted to kind loving people? Do you wish to be more like they are in your own way? Do you know anybody that isn’t attracted to that?!?
In order to work through our fear and judgment of “doing it wrong” on our spiritual path, I think it’s important to be willing to be OK with “doing it wrong” or even seeing others do it “wrong” and just be happy to be playing at all! To see that the Symphony of Love is just tuning up for the grand performance we will all play together. To see each other getting ready for the UNDRESSED performance in a dressed rehearsal. In other words: form getting ready to disappear into the formless reality that is God!
Let the Symphony of Love play! Find peace in the playfulness of your part and the part others play. While we all tune ourselves to the symphony of love and return God’s song of Love for all creation back to “Him”. ( “Him” in quote marks for emphasis on a genderless Creator)
In this Symphony of Love I may forget a note, or a whole stance! I might play out of tune or choose to attempt my own solo. (which at some point we all learn will never work). I might forget that you are learning the song and judge you for not hearing it as I do. Or get angry because you think I should play it your way.
AH! My friends; this is how the Symphony of love is ultimately learned! It is in this that the opportunity to hear the notes come! To choose the note of Love instead of judgment and anger that are out of tune. The opportunity to play notes of Peace that harmonize and unite us in the symphony of love. Forgiveness will bring us back onto the grand stage and invite the unity that the song requires!
To make this “symphony of love” the sweetest music fit to be heard by our “Conductor” (God). We need to drop a lot ideas of what being spiritual means. Ideas that just don’t work. Ideas like religious bigotry, self righteousness, and thoughts of being on the “only right path”.
The music calls for dropping the idea of an individual self and join in the unity of Christ consciousness. (if you break the word individuality up, you get in divided duality). Only then will the song be fit to be heard by The Source that wrote the song in the first place!
It’s a tall order to let go of the thought of an individual self. Few (including myself) will overcome the fear of losing our cherished individual uniqueness in favor of the sweet music of the unity in Love’s Truth.
But we can tune ourselves by practicing Peacefulness, Forgiveness and Love, in our daily life. We can remember that we are all in the symphony trying to learn the music our souls long to hear and play. That nobody will be left out because that would make a note be missed and mess up the Harmony the Song of Love requires!
By teaching these 3 chords of Forgiveness, Peace, and Love; we will be more apt to learn it and orchestrate the true goal we seek. The attainment of Enlightenment. Or more simply…The TRUTH of who we REALLY are as GOD created us!
