With Christmas once again upon us most of our minds are focused on having the True Spirit of Christmas. Hanging Christmas lights and decorations. Getting all the Christmas shopping done and of course watching all our favorite TV specials. Christmas is a special time of year. A time for giving. A time to remember that Christ was born.
This Christmas is for me so much different than any other Christmas. I see things so differently than I used to. The meaning of all those TV specials and the meaning of all the symbolism reminds me that the Materialism associated with Christmas and giving is just a small hint of The True Spirit of Christmas.
SO what is The True Spirit of Christmas? What is is it we are to remember at this festive time of year? You could say “Peace on Earth Good will toward man”is the true reason for the season and you would be correct in saying so! But Celebrating the thought does not bring it about unless we ACT on it! Quite frankly I find this action much more difficult than just singing songs and going to church in wishful wisps that it were On earth as it is in Heaven.
The True Spirit of Christmas is about Peace on Earth Good will toward man. But unless we find it in our hearts and minds to truly extend peace and good will we will always find it lacking here on earth.
My favorite Christmas TV Special has always been “A CHRISTMAS CAROL” By Charles Dickens. Olde Uncle Scrooge had a hard cold and calloused heart. All he cared about was himself and his wealth. In other words all the comforts that materialism supposedly offers. But until he was visited by the three spirits, he had no idea that True Joy had eluded him. He would continue to do so unless he opened his heart and let that spirit guide him instead of his own desires. The Spirit taught him that sharing is caring and happiness has nothing or at least very little to do with his wealth of materialistic goods. True wealth and abundance come Love’s extension. Joy comes from sharing joy, just as peace comes from extending peace. These are the true gifts of the Spirit which none of us are found lacking. It is a choice we make to turn to other forms of comfort because we believe they are more important in some way, or we believe we have nothing to offer. Perception again is the double edged sword we bleed from! But it can also save us! As we see from Uncle Scrooge or even the Grinch. Both tried to either deny or stop Christmas from coming. But the Forces of our True reality cannot be denied forever! Only can only be covered by our beliefs and choices to choose something else instead and stay stuck in time.
When we were kids we asked questions about how Santa could deliver all those gifts to all the other kids in the world in just one night! How Could that be?? A Miracle must make it possible! Well I’m here to tell you that this year I believe in Santa more than I ever did! Not the man, but the story and the symbol He represents. Santa Claus is Beyond time and space as is the Holy Spirit. And to be in The True Spirit of Christmas is to realize that you, me and everything we see is a miracle. That in Truth we are all as beyond the reach of times decay as The endless stories of Santa Or Christ Himself. The Bible says “Before Abraham was I knew you” Does this not point to our eternal nature? Why then do we deny that part of ourselves and choose instead fear? Fear of a death that can never come! Oh Death Where is thy sting? What dies never lived but was an appearance! Much like a mirage of water to a thirsty desert traveler; he sees what he most desires. Faith then is knowing that seeing is not believing but rather Believing is seeing! And the chaos of this world proves that each sees his own reality within a larger collective shared believe system. What then can you and offer the world this Christmas without spending a dime?
A Joyful Heart!
In knowing that the True Spirit Of Christmas does not come but once a year but is a daily devotion to choosing peace in our heart, peace in our thoughts and Joy to the world!
A Course In Miracles chapter15 section XI Page 327 is titled Christmas as The end of Sacrifice
In Paragraphs 3-4 we have instructions of the Gift we have been already given and are to share with each other.
“This Christmas give the Holy Spirit everything that would hurt you. Let yourself be healed completely that you may join with Him in healing, and let us celebrate our release together by releasing everyone with us. Lea eve nothing behind, for release is total, and when you have accepted it with me you will give it with me. All pain and sacrifice and littleness will disappear in our relationship, which is as innocent as our relationship with our Father, and as powerful. Pain will be brought to us and disappear in our presence And without pain here can be no sacrifice. And without sacrifice there Love must be”.
You who believe that sacrifice is love must learn that sacrifice is separation from love. For sacrifice brings guilt as surely as love brings peace. Guilt is the condition of sacrifice, as peace is the condition for the awareness of your relationship with God. Through guilt you exclude your Father and your brothers from yourself. Through Peace you invite them back, realizing they are where your invitation bids them be. What you exclude from yourself seems fearful, for you endow it with fear and try to cast it out, though it is part of you. Who can perceive himself as loathsome, and live with himself in peace? And who can try to resolve the “conflict” of Heaven and Hell in Him by casting Heaven out and giving it the attributes of hell, without experiencing himself as incomplete and lonely?”
I’ll skip now to Paragraph 10 which teaches us how to give the gift of The True Spirit of Christmas.
“This is the time in which a new year will soon be born from the time of Christ. I have perfect faith in you to do all that you would accomplish. Nothing will be lacking, and you will make complete and not destroy. Say then to your brother:
I give you the Holy Spirit as part of myself.
I know that you will be released, unless I want to use you to imprison myself.
In the name of my freedom I choose your release, because I recognize that we will be released together.”
There is a lot here to digest! But I think in short the basic lesson is to forgive. To see everyone and everything as a gift from God. Or as a call for love due to incorrect perception. We can’t give the gifts we do not have. But the truth is WE DO have this gift in all of us because God put it there! We just need to choose to see it, and forgive ourselves when we don’t and make another attempt.
So…Merry Christmas to all and to all A good Night!
