The Following is from a Spiritual discussion I had with Ellie Roozdar. (See photo Left) An enlightened spiritual teacher Who invites us to:
“ …find the authentic joy within ourselves, all we need to do is to remember that silent watcher (awareness) and be aware of it at all the time. Be aware of the awareness, that’s all.
By and by the true unconditional joy which is utterly independent from anything from outside will come to the surface and will stay with you at all the time. This is our true essence.
This is what we have been born with.”
My hope is that by posting my own questions and struggles on this Spiritual Journey, it will be helpful to you. That is my purpose!
I’ll set this up by saying that our conversation will be in Italics followed by my comments that are not in italics.
ME: Hi Ellie!
ME: I just wanted to thank you for adding me as a friend (on Facebook) and of course I have some questions for you, if I may ask.
Ellie Roozdar : I have a few minutes…
ME: Is it possible for me to speed up the process of Knowing myself?
Ellie Roozdar You are right here and right now. To know yourself, there is no process….
ME: I DO see that! And yet I also know that …By noticing this that witnesses…It builds my gratitude! I feel better, so I want more! lol
I’m looking for a way to push the mind out of the way so I see this better. Does that make sense?
Ellie Roozdar: What is the mind have to do with you?
ME: From my perspective both nothing and everything. That’s the paradox of my experience. The mind seems to be a distraction from what’s HERE even though I KNOW that isn’t true! it’s weird But funny too.
I think that just in the practicing of Noticing…The mind will learn to relax and allow. that seems to be the case for me
Ellie Roozdar : If there is any path, The path of the Truth starts with Silence and meditation, contemplation, investigation and finally discovery. One needs to be authentic and sincere. Then there will be no time.
ME: MMMmmm SO that confirms for me that my path is working. Thanks!
Ellie Roozdar : May peace be with you in each breath. Love.
ME: One more question I’ve been contemplating. Do I actually have choice of how my life shows up.. or is it already all planned out? Like a film strip I just have to go thru frame by frame?
Ellie Roozdar : What does this have to do with your Self-knowledge?
ME: Hmmm Good point! SO what I hear you saying is that I am misusing my mind for delusional thinking. Is that it?
Because if that’s it…it is THAT that I want to stop! which gets back to the original question
Ellie Roozdar : All I have to say sweet Rick is for you to wake up to the Truth, that is all. It is nothing to do with anything else. As simple as that. The mind likes to twist it and make it look complicated and try to understand it more. There is nothing to understand for the mind. This path is not for understanding, it is discovering the Truth of your being. The Truth shall set your mind free from delusion.
ME: I’m just getting a taste of that truth!
The mind is still busy though. lol
Ellie Roozdar : Is it really felt as “That truth? ” You need to contemplate.
In reality, is it a Truth and you apart from it? Or all there is, is the Truth.
These questions, will help you dive in and discover. It may take a few minutes or a lifetime…. You need to contemplate deeply…Hope it was helpful!
ME: Yes Ellie…I still feel the lie of Separation. I KNOW it’s a lie and that my mind is distracting me from the truth! How do I know this? Because it can be noticed! So I know that my contemplations are pointing me to being more open to the truth. Words get clumsy! And yes it was very helpful!
May I post this on my blog to help others?
Ellie Roozdar : Sure!
ME: Thank you!
Ellie Roozdar:Peace and joy!
ME: I would say for you too…But I know you’re already there! Big HUG!
Ellie Roozdar: You have it too my dearest…..
As we ALL do! There are a few key points I’ve learned in this conversation that I’d like to stress. “To know yourself, there is no process….” Ah….OKAY!? So how do we find the truth of who we are? If you are anything like me that quote seems hopeless! I can do nothing to find out the Absolute Truth of who I am!? What do do now? Oh…Wait…There seems to be a quote I’ve quoted many times! Did I miss it too? ”Be Still and know that I AM God”
Is feeling hopeless being still? The mind causes the feeling of hopelessness! Here we have to ask ourselves: What is the mind have to do with you? Here Ellie reminds us to tell the truth! to- “remember that silent watcher (awareness) and be aware of it at all the time.”
The mind, as I said in the conversation, is a distraction from the Truth! “The mind likes to twist it and make it look complicated and try to understand it more. There is nothing to understand for the mind.” Oh what tangled webs we weave! But what tangles it? Only the mind! Who notices it? I DO! So it always comes back to the Most basic question! WHO AM I? The fact that this question confuses us is a pointer to how often we lie to ourselves! How the mind tries to steal our True Identity!
So while Ellie says there is no process, most of us want to believe that there is! I know that I do! I want to figure this thing out! Thank you Ellie for reminding me that I don’t have to figure anything out! Who I am is Prior to the mind which projects the illusions of an objective world! No wonder I feel small, limited and hopeless! I’m letting something I’m not (the mind) tell me who I AM!
Tell the TRUTH! Who hears that voice?
Rest in Peace is not for the Dead, But for the Living!
What dies? The Body!
Am I a body? Not if I can notice it!
I’ll use this Quote from Rumi, and remind myself that it is not just beautifully poetic….It’s an instruction for a living meditation!
“Time moves. I am still.
The body moves. I am still.
The mind moves. I am still.
She dies. I am still.
He dies. I am still.
I die. I am still.
I still Am.”
So is there a Process? If there is I’d have to say Notice what’s Still in you! Or as another Teacher says-
“Awareness is always there,
but it doesn’t do you much good until you bring consciousness to it,
even for brief moments.
Don’t be too concerned with how long you can sustain it.
It’s more important how often you check in.
If you keep checking in, the sustaining of it happens on its own.”
